Iván’s family of coffee farmers moved to southern Huila when he was 16. His father gave him about 3.5 hectares of fallow land that he had to transform into a coffee plantation. Iván partnered with a local neighbour: he provided the land, the neighbour contributed labour and knowledge, and they split the costs in half. He’s been collaborating with importers to get feedback on his processes, and his results as a 23-year old don’t have anything less than those of his more experienced counterparts.
